ResearchPad is operated by ResearchPad ("we", "us", "our").
To use certain features, you must create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Keep your login credentials secure
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access
- Be responsible for all activity under your account
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- Access Keys authenticate your use of ResearchPad's AI features
- Keys are personal and non-transferable
- Do not share your Access Key with others
- We may revoke keys that are abused or shared
- Credits are used to access AI-powered features
- Credit costs vary based on document length and AI model used
- Unused credits may expire according to your plan terms
- Credits are non-refundable except where required by law
You agree NOT to:
- Use the Services for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to reverse engineer the desktop application
- Share your account or Access Key with others
- Circumvent any usage limits or security measures
- Use automated tools to access the Services without permission
- Upload content that infringes others' intellectual property rights
ResearchPad's software, website, and branding are our intellectual property. You may not copy, modify, or distribute them without permission.
You retain all rights to documents you analyze with ResearchPad. We do not claim any ownership of:
- Your PDF documents
- Summaries generated from your documents
- Mind maps created from your content
- Any AI-generated content based on your materials
You own everything you create with ResearchPad.
When using AI features with cloud-based models (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, etc.):
- Your text is processed by the selected AI provider
- Each provider has their own terms of service
- We are not responsible for the AI provider's handling of your data
- For maximum privacy, use local AI models
We strive to provide reliable service but do not guarantee:
- 100% uptime or availability
- That the Services will be error-free
- That AI responses will be accurate or complete
The desktop application works offline for local features, but cloud AI features require internet connectivity.
- Payments are processed securely through Stripe
- Prices are as displayed at time of purchase
- We may change pricing with reasonable notice
- Credit purchases are generally non-refundable
- We may offer refunds at our discretion for technical issues
- Subscription cancellations stop future charges but don't refund past payments

You may stop using ResearchPad at any time. You can delete your account from the settings page.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in abusive behavior
- Fail to pay for Services
Upon termination, your right to use the Services ends immediately.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- ResearchPad is provided "as is" without warranties
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the past 12 months
You agree to indemnify ResearchPad against claims arising from:
- Your use of the Services
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your infringement of others' rights
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where ResearchPad operates. Disputes will be resolved in the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be:
- Announced via email to registered users
- Posted on our website with a new effective date
- Effective 30 days after posting (or as specified)
Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
